AC Not Cooling? Quick Checks for Daytona Beach Homes
These checks are quick and safe, and they either fix the problem or give your contractor a head start.

Cool mode, a setting below the room, fan on Auto and fresh batteries.
Breakers and disconnect
Check both breakers and the outdoor disconnect. Reset once.
Filter
Replace a dirty filter and give the coil time to recover.
Ice
Run the fan only to thaw iced lines before trying cooling again.
Drain pan
A full pan may have tripped the float switch.
Outdoor unit
The fan should spin when cooling. Humming without spinning needs a technician.
After a storm
If it stopped during lightning, check breakers once, then book a repair.
Condo owners
Check building rules before anyone accesses rooftop equipment.
Notes
Write down what you checked and when the problem started.
Next
See AC repair.
Hot afternoons
An older system may run all afternoon and still sit a few degrees above the setting on the hottest days. If it catches up by evening, it may just be at its limit.
Stay off the roof
Rooftop and balcony equipment can be dangerous to reach. Leave it to the contractor.
Rooms that stay warm
If only a few rooms are warm, the cause may be ducts or closed vents rather than the AC itself. Note which rooms.
Lightning season
From June through September, afternoon storms are the most common reason a working AC suddenly stops. A tripped breaker or a damaged board is often the cause.
