AC Repair in DeLand

DeLand at a glance

DeLand is the Volusia County seat, a city of 37,351 people (2020) founded in 1876 by Henry Addison DeLand. It's home to Stetson University, Florida's oldest private college.

What that means for your AC

Inland DeLand doesn't get the ocean breeze, so summer afternoons can feel hotter, and its historic neighborhoods have many older homes with limited duct space. Ductless mini-splits can help rooms the ducts don't reach; see ductless mini-splits. Brick bungalows and wood-frame homes near downtown often have low attics or crawl spaces, which limit where new ducts can run and make careful planning important.

Student rentals

Rentals near campus benefit from regular filter changes and a yearly service. Oaks and tall pines shade many streets, which helps in summer but fills gutters and outdoor coils with leaves and needles each fall.

Persimmon Hollow

Before it was DeLand, the area was called Persimmon Hollow, for the wild persimmon trees around its natural springs, and it could be reached only by steamboat up the St. Johns River. Ruben Marsh, who first saw the area with a scouting party in 1841, settled here after the Seminole War. Many of DeLand's older homes were built long before central air, and adding or replacing cooling in a historic house takes care with ducts and attic space; see ductwork and airflow.
